John Sturrock QC
- described in Chambers UK Guide to the Legal Profession as a "trailblazer" and "a wonderful
communicator with much experience of complex
commercial issues". Legal 500 describes John as "universally regarded as Scotland's finest mediator,
with a reputation which compares favourably with mediators anywhere." An internationally-recognised
mediation and advocacy coach, John has also been described as "one of the best teachers of mediation".
Pamela Lyall
- undoubtedly the leading female mediator in the civil and commercial fields in Scotland. She has considerable experience of mediating in professional negligence, property, management, personal injury, commercial contracts and other disputes.
Heather Allen
- a mediator, coach and facilitator with many years of experience. Her dispute resolution and conflict
management roles cover a wide spectrum of organisations and industries in the UK and abroad. Heads up the CEDR
training faculty.
Hugh Donald OBE
- a senior partner in a major Scottish legal firm, he specialises in management issues, the health sector and
professional indemnity. He has been a leading figure in family mediation since the 1980s and has experience of
commercial and executive level mediation.
David Fraser
- a company director with PLC, SME, new venture, high growth and private equity experience and with a
background in engineering and project management. He is also active in the development of business
relationship skills. His mediation experience includes technology, board room, IP and corporate matters.
Alastair Kelly
- a chartered surveyor and Fellow of the Association of Building Engineers. Formerly Head of Building
Consultancy at a leading property organisation, working with Project Managers, Architects and Surveyors
throughout the UK. His mediation experience includes commercial contracts, professional services and oil and
gas.
Carol Paton
- an experienced senior executive and consultant. She was formerly the deputy managing director of a large housing group, advising on regulatory and governance matters, with responsibility for corporate services. She has experience in professional services and workplace mediation.
Judith Scott
- a chartered accountant, with wide public and private sector experience, and specialism in forensic
accounting. A frequent expert witness and independent expert in financial disputes, her mediation experience
includes personal injury, property disputes, commercial contracts and unfair prejudice claims.
Alastair Thornton
- a former President of the Law Society of Scotland and law firm partner with 22 years of litigation
experience. He is a part-time Sheriff. His mediation experience includes property, commercial and business
disputes.
Sir David Edward QC
- formerly British judge in the European Court of Justice and one of the most distinguished lawyers of a generation, is available to act as an independent accredited mediator in appropriate matters.

Bill Marsh
- an international adviser (to the UN, governments and others) on mediation and dispute
resolution and a mediator for over 15 years in a wide range of disputes (UK and international), particularly
multi-party and class actions. Founding Director of consulting firm Conflict Management International.
Charles Dodson
- a mediator with ten years experience of a broad range of commercial matters including multi-party and
international disputes. Former managing partner at the international law firm, Lovells. He is involved in mediator
training and international dispute resolution projects.
Miryana Nesic
- a solicitor, mediator, author and ADR consultant. She has worked on ADR projects
around the world and has a special expertise in designing dispute resolution systems. She trains lawyers and
corporate representatives throughout Europe on dispute resolution techniques and has mediated a range of
civil/commercial disputes.

The team is available, working individually or alongside Core’s lead mediators, to assist in matters involving
